Volunteer Descriptions
VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTIONS
Starter – (TRAINING REQUIRED) The Starter is the official manager of the swim meet, announces races and other information, and is also a current Stroke and Turn Official. This position is only required for home meets. Email[email protected] if you would like more information about the training.
Stroke & Turn Official – (TRAINING REQUIRED) Observes competitive strokes and disqualifies swimmers if not complaint with the rules. Email[email protected] if you would like more information about the training.
Set Up- Meet Set Up volunteers arrive before warm-ups for home meets to help set up the pool area and parking lot for the meet. This includes moving tables and chairs, helping with the starting blocks, setting up the benches in the staging areas, putting up the flags, putting up no parking signs and cones, etc. This position is only required for home meets.
Take Down- Take Down volunteers help put the pool back to its pre-meet condition, including putting back tables and chairs, flag poles, starting blocks, clean-up of the pool, both on deck and outside the fence, ensuring all trash is in the dumpster, etc. This position is only required for home meets.
Concessions Volunteers- Concessions Volunteers work at the concession stand during the home meets, serving food and collecting payments. This position is only required for home meets.
Bullpen Parent – Line up swimmers for each heat in each event. Organize relays and take younger swimmers to shallow end of the pool. Make sure swimmers are in correct order and send swimmers to the Clerk of Course. This position is for home and away meets.
Clerk of Course – Organize swimmers from both teams into individual heats on pool deck (chairs and benches). This position is only required for home meets.
Computer Operator- (TRAINING REQUIRED) Before each home meet – Merge entries; create heat sheets, stroke and turn sheets, lane timer sheets, relay cards/labels. During each meet – Enter times, score events, print awards labels, score sheets, and calculate meet results. After each meet – Create meet backup to transfer results to website and GCSL. This position is only required for home meets.
Computer Verifier– Verify computer results by checking times, DQs, NSs, etc. ** May be required to post results. This position is only required for away meets.
Timer – Records accurate times with LEGIBLE writing for each swimmer per heat on timer sheets or relay cards. Records DQs with as much information at judge provides. For Home Meets, 9 timers are needed per shift. (8 lanes, plus 1 backup). For Away Meets and 6 lane pool, 7 timers are needed per shift. (6 lanes plus 1 backup). This position is for home and away meets.
Runner– Responsible for collecting timer sheets, placing them in lane order, and placing them in the bucket for the upstairs clubhouse to retrieve for data entry. Requires significant walking. This position is only required for home meets.
Heat Winner Distributor– Distribute awards to heat winners immediately after each heat. This position is only required for home meets.
Ribbons – Place labels on 1st through 6th place ribbons for individual events, 1st and 2nd place only ribbons for relays and file them in the Edgewater Mailbox. Home Team prints labels. (2nd Shift Only)
